INFO   •  In this project, I chose a location in San Francisco and created a 40-page book about the location as an exploration in typography, hierarchy, photography, and narrative writing. I chose the Carolina Green Space, a small area of greenery at the top of Potrero Hill, and constructed my book around it. My design hinged around an ever-evolving grid of photography, text blocks, and color blocks that told the story of a walk up Potrero Hill as the sun set. My design was meant to evoke imagery of windows,  which allowed the reader to take a peek into my journey and see all the beautiful scenery from an outside perspective.
Below are my initial digital sketches/explorations of what my book might look like, using graphic elements and images. Many of the black boxes were meant to denote images.
I decided to pursue this grid-based direction, I explored what fonts I might choose, how I might choose to organize the book, and what images pair well with each other. This is the final product: a forty page photobook (depicted in spreads) about the Carolina Green Space in San Francisco, a lesser-known park at the top of Potrero Hill. I wrote the content myself as well, aside from the poems at each part opener.
Finally, I designed the cover. I wanted my book to have a removable die-cut dust jacket on top of my cover, which is portrayed here.
